Course Description

What Students Will Learn

Your course instructor, Taryam Al Subaihi, who has been presenting the Emirati Culture Course for over a decade now, will take you through a journey of understanding, beginning with the history of the UAE and its people, social and economic progression over the last few centuries, right up until the establishment of the nation in 1971.

Taryam will then introduce to you the basics of the Emirati culture beginning with greetings, appearances, general behavior, interacting with Emirati and much more. Throughout each section of the course, Taryam will explain to the philosophy and reasoning behind each reference, helping you to understand not only what to do, but perhaps more importantly, why it does done in the Emirati culture.

In addition to preparing for your work and home life in the UAE, you will also come out of the course having a new direct UAE national contact. Taryam will be available at any time through email to discuss any questions or further inquiries you might have about the culture. Many times, cultural clashes occur and it is important for anyone seeking to adapt to a new culture to discuss these clashes and understand why they occurred and what could be done to avoid them in the future. Taryam will be available to discuss these issues by email to ensure you will continue to have a guide to the Emirati culture even after you have completed the course.


Target Audience of The Course

This course is designed for anyone who has just arrived to the UAE or for those who have spent time in the country but have not had the opportunity to learn about the UAE culture and society. The course will introduce to you not only the basics of the Emirati cultural, but also vital information about history, social ethics and cultural norms that will open up a doorway to the Emirati society which will assist in improving your work environment as well as your day to day life in the UAE.

Instructor Bio

Taryam Al Subaihi is a motivational speaker and media expert from Abu Dhabi who specializes in the introduction and communication of the Emirati culture.

Taryam began his career as journalist in the UAE print media where he discovered his passion for writing about the Emirati culture. After becoming a the first Emirati columnist to write for English newspapers, he moved into the field of corporate communications where he was able to develop his own training program entitled the ‘Emirati Culture Awareness Course’ in 2004 that combined his published work into an interactive motivational course, allowing expatriates to learn about the rich customs, traditions and everyday knowhow of the Emirati culture.

Taryam currently heads one of Abu Dhabi’s leading semi-government companies as Director of Communications and continues to write about the Emirati culture in The National newspaper, as well as present the Emirati culture through awareness courses to various organizations throughout the year.

Out of his many accomplishments, Taryam is known for his expedition to Antarctica in 2011 where he became the second Emirati to visit the continent, part of a leadership training program sponsored by Etihad Airways, where he held the role of Environment Ambassador and Corporate Communications Manager as well as a columnist for the airline entitled ‘the majlis’ which focused on the Emirati culture.

Having participated in many public lectures and speaking opportunities in conferences and seminars, Taryam was also invited in 2011 to present in Abu Dhabi’s first TEDx as a guest speaker.
